Abstract
This study aims to design a proposed curriculum for teaching Arabic for professional purposes to Indonesian automobile mechanics working in Arab countries, based on the importance of the Arabic language in professional work environments and the need to develop specialized educational programs that meet learners’ functional linguistic needs. The research problem lies in the inadequacy of general Arabic language curricula to meet the specific professional needs of the automobile mechanics field, which leads to weak communication skills among workers in this sector. The study aims to analyze linguistic and professional needs, identify appropriate vocabulary and technical terms, and then design a curriculum suitable for the nature of work in mechanical workshops. The researcher employed a descriptive-analytical method using a library research approach by collecting data from books, references, and previous studies related to Arabic for Specific Purposes and the field of automobile mechanics, then analyzing and classifying the data. The findings showed that workers in the field of automobile mechanics need functional Arabic language instruction that focuses on professional communication skills and real-life situations in the workplace. The study also resulted in the design of a proposed curriculum that includes educational objectives, professional content, teaching methods, and assessment techniques appropriate for the professional field. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on teaching Arabic to automobile mechanics as a technical professional field that, to the best of the researcher’s knowledge, has not received an independent study within Arabic for Specific Purposes. This study is also expected to contribute to the development of professional Arabic language curricula and strengthen their relevance to the needs of the modern labor market.
