Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of Arabic calligraphy instruction in improving the writing skills of middle school students at Ma’had Ḥamalat al-Qur’an wa al-Ḥadīth (HAQU) Bogor. Writing skill is one of the essential competencies in learning Arabic because it reflects students’ ability to express ideas clearly and accurately. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a case study method. The research participants consisted of 16 students from the eighth and ninth grades selected through total sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and the Miles and Huberman qualitative analysis model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that Arabic calligraphy instruction positively contributed to students’ writing skills, particularly in terms of clarity, accuracy, beauty of handwriting, and writing motivation. The overall percentage result reached 79.125%, categorized as “very good.” The study concludes that Arabic calligraphy instruction plays an important role in developing students’ Arabic writing skills and supporting discipline, patience, and neatness in writing activities.
