Abstract
This research was conducted due to the weakness of speaking skills among junior high school students at Darul Fikr Riau School, despite their learning of basic Arabic vocabulary and grammar. The study aims to develop an instructional book for improving speaking skills based on the vocabulary of Al-‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk Book One, while connecting the vocabulary with real situations within the school environment. The researcher employed a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach through observation, interviews, and analysis of educational documents. The vocabulary in the textbook was analyzed and reorganized according to semantic fields related to school life, such as greetings, classroom activities, and daily activities. The findings revealed that the weakness in speaking skills is caused not only by limited vocabulary, but also by lack of communicative practice and fear of speaking Arabic. The study also showed that the communicative approach, group activities, and contextual learning based on real situations can increase students’ participation and confidence in using Arabic. The research concludes that instructional materials based on students’ real linguistic needs contribute effectively to the development of speaking skills.
