Abstract

Surah Yusuf, in particular, is one of the chapters that highlights the importance of dialogue in conveying the divine message. It contains a series of dialogues involving Prophet Yusuf (Joseph), his family members, the king, and the inmates of the prison. These profound conversations offer a rich model for reflection, and readers can gain a deep understanding of the noble verses by following the dialogues and the interactions among the characters. This study aims to explore the Quranic dialogues found in Surah Yusuf as a means to develop speaking skills among fifth-level students at Al-Raya University. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach in examining the dialogues in Surah Yusuf by closely analyzing all its verses, collecting them according to thematic dialogue categories, classifying them, presenting them, and drawing conclusions to enhance students’ oral expression abilities. The study found that there are 82 verses in Surah Yusuf that contain dialogue. These include sixteen types of dialogue: the dream dialogue, the beginning of the conspiracy, the planning of the conspiracy, the aftermath of the conspiracy, the seduction dialogue, the accusation and false defense, the blame dialogue, the prison dialogue, the king’s dream, signs of the conspiracy, the reward dialogue, the summoning of Benjamin, the dialogue of means and effort, the alleged theft, the apology and acknowledgment of error, and the good news. This study also proposes methods for utilizing these dialogues to improve students’ speaking skills.
