Abstract

This research aimed to identify the rhetorical styles (asālīb balāghiyyah) found in Hisn al-Muslim and their rhetorical meanings, by identifying various rhetorical styles found in Hisn al-Muslim and then analyzing them. To achieve this aim, this research used the descriptive-analytical method by analyzing the rhetorical styles found in the Adhkar mentioned in Hisn al-Muslim. This was done by collecting the rhetorical styles from the Adhkar mentioned in Hisn al-Muslim, presenting and analyzing them, and then drawing conclusions to obtain the results. The result of this research reveal that the Adhkar in Hisn al-Muslim are contain rhetorical styles, namely: ma‘ānī (semantic rhetorical styles), bayān (figurative rhetorical styles), and badī‘ (embellishment rhetorical styles). However, not all types of rhetorical styles under these three main categories are present in the Adhkar. The ma‘ānī styles present include: the style of restriction (qaṣr), brevity (ījāz), elaboration (iṭnāb), and word order rearrangement (taqdīm wa ta’khīr); which contains 4 styles of qaṣr, 9 of ījāz, 3 of iṭnāb, and 5 of taqdīm wa ta’khīr. And the bayān styles present include: the style of metonymy (majāz mursal), metaphor (isti‘ārah), and synecdoche (kināyah); which contains 6 styles of majāz mursal, 5 of isti‘ārah, and 9 of kināyah. And the badī’ styles present include: the style of rhyme (saj‘), antithesis (ṭibāq), and opposition (muqābalah); which contains 6 styles of saj‘, 7 of ṭibāq, and 7 of muqābalah.
