Abstract
This study aimed to describe the practice of watching cartoons in Arabic and its role in improving the speaking skills of students in the Language Preparation Department at Al-Rayah University. Watching cartoons in Arabic is one of the educational activities organized by the university to support Arabic language learning and to help students at the preparatory level—which is the lowest in terms of language proficiency—acquire new vocabulary and expressions, and become accustomed to speaking in Arabic. The researcher employed a descriptive quantitative method, using data collection tools such as observation, questionnaires, interviews, and reviewing relevant references and documents. The data was analyzed using the descriptive quantitative approach. The results of the study revealed that watching Arabic cartoons is a regular activity, usually held on Friday nights, and it contributes effectively to the development of speaking skills. This activity is implemented through collaboration between the university administration and the student activity department. The statistical results showed that the significance value was 0.772, which is less than 0.05, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). This indicates that watching Arabic cartoons has a significant effect on improving speaking skills. Furthermore, the results showed that the relationship between the independent variable (X) and the dependent variable (Y) was 0.041959719 or equivalent to 0.01%, indicating a very weak positive relationship between the two variables.
