Abstract

This research was written on the issue of the presence of vocabulary that is not used nowadays in the Al-Munawwir dictionary which is a very popular dictionary in Indonesia. This can make it difficult for Arabic language learners to study the vocabulary of the language and to support the Arabic language learning arena, the researcher sought to explore the common vocabulary of the modern era in the Al-Munawwir dictionary (from the word coffin to mining as an example) in the light of the book List of Common Vocabulary in the Western Language. In order to facilitate Arabic language learners to access the common vocabulary in Al-Munawwir Dictionary. This study is a qualitative study using a comparative approach, a desk-based data collection method, and a data analysis method using the Miles and Huberman model. The researcher obtained the results that the common vocabulary in the modern era in Al-Munawwir Dictionary (from the word coffin to the word mining as a model) in light of the book List of Common Vocabulary in the Arabic Language with a number of 120 vocabulary. As for the uncommon ones, there are 24. The total number of vocabulary is 144. These common vocabulary words are arranged in a list with their meanings taken from Al-Ghani Dictionary to clarify the common vocabulary.
