Abstract
Vocabulary mastery is an essential aspect of foreign language learning because it supports learners’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. However, vocabulary instruction in Islamic boarding schools is often limited to memorization-based methods that lack contextual and meaningful practice. This study aims to examine the preparation and implementation of vocabulary learning media using the Wordwall application at At-Tarbiyah Islamic Boarding School, Sukabumi. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach focusing on needs analysis, media design, implementation, and evaluation of vocabulary learning activities. Data were collected through classroom observations, documentation, and analysis of students’ vocabulary performance before and after the implementation of Wordwall-based activities. The findings reveal that the use of Wordwall encourages active learner participation, provides immediate feedback, and facilitates repeated exposure to vocabulary items, which are important for vocabulary acquisition. In addition, the game-based features of the application increase students’ motivation and reduce anxiety during classroom activities. The study concludes that systematically prepared Wordwall-based learning media can improve the effectiveness of vocabulary instruction in Islamic boarding school contexts when aligned with learners’ needs and pedagogical objectives.
