Abstract

This study aims to identify the rhetorical styles found in Al-Mutanabbi’s poems “Wa Ḥarra Qalbāh” and “Lihawā al-Nufūs” and to utilize them in developing speaking materials for non-native Arabic learners. Rhetoric is considered an important element in enhancing learners’ linguistic and communicative competence. The study employed a qualitative analytical method through library research in which the rhetorical expressions contained in both poems were analyzed in terms of meaning implication aesthetic value and their effectiveness in conveying ideas. The research also focused on how these rhetorical devices could be applied in teaching speaking skills through communicative situations and various language activities suited to learners’ levels and educational needs. The findings reveal that the two poems contain rich rhetorical variations including metaphor metonymy antithesis parallelism and implicit simile. These rhetorical forms can be effectively utilized in preparing speaking materials through daily dialogues speech texts language exercises and expressive communication activities. The study concludes that integrating classical Arabic rhetoric into speaking instruction not only improves learners’ oral expression skills but also develops their linguistic appreciation increases their confidence in using Arabic and connects Arabic literary heritage with the development of modern communication skills for non-native speakers of Arabic.
