Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of the Arabic language as the language of Islam and its influence on regional languages in Indonesia, including the Gorontalo language, which has absorbed a number of Arabic vocabularies. This study aims to identify and analyze Arabic-derived words in the Gorontalo–Indonesian Dictionary from the letters A to J and to examine their utilization in teaching Arabic to beginner Gorontalo learners. The method used is library research with a descriptive-analytical approach, involving data collection from the dictionary, followed by analysis based on phonological and semantic aspects, as well as tracing their origins in Arabic. The results show that there are 40 words derived from Arabic, most of which retain their original meanings despite undergoing phonological changes in accordance with the Gorontalo language system. Furthermore, these words have proven to be effective as instructional media in facilitating vocabulary comprehension, increasing learning motivation, and building a linguistic bridge between the mother tongue and Arabic. Therefore, the use of Arabic loanwords can enhance the effectiveness of Arabic language learning for beginner Gorontalo learners.
