Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of artificial intelligence–based proofreading tools in supporting academic writing in Arabic, with a particular focus on Microsoft editor as an applied model. The research is grounded in the widespread prevalence of written linguistic errors in Arabic academic texts and the challenges posed by the language’s complex morphological and syntactic structure for natural language processing technologies. Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, the study examines the tool’s operational mechanisms, the types of errors it detects, and the nature of its corrective suggestions through the analysis of Arabic academic texts containing common writing errors. The findings indicate that Microsoft editor demonstrates a high level of effectiveness in detecting and correcting common spelling errors, thereby contributing to the improvement of academic writing quality. However, its performance remains relatively limited in handling deep grammatical errors and complex syntactic structures. The study concludes that while Microsoft editor serves as a valuable assistive tool for academic writing, it cannot replace specialized linguistic knowledge or human proofreading. The research recommends further development of AI-based proofreading tools tailored specifically to the linguistic characteristics of Arabic and their integration into educational and academic contexts.
