Abstract
Teachers require supportive and engaging instructional media, especially in teaching Arabic at the elementary school level, as students are still in the early stages of childhood development. A pictorial dictionary is one of the essential learning tools needed by students to facilitate vocabulary acquisition, as it helps associate words with images. This study aims to explore the process of designing a supplementary dictionary in the form of a bilingual pictorial dictionary (Indonesian–Arabic) and reveal the it’s validity. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with a quantitative approach, based in part on the theory of Borg and Gall. The results of this study indicate the following: (1) The researcher has designed a pictorial dictionary for Arabic language learning at the elementary level through several stages, including needs and problem analysis, data collection, product design, expert validation, and product revision. (2) The designed dictionary was deemed feasible for use, with the following results: 1) Validation by a language expert yielded a score of 92.5%, corresponding to the “Strongly Agree” category according to the percentage table of the questionnaire criteria. 2) Validation by a design expert yielded a score of 95.5%, also classified as “Strongly Agree.” 3) Validation by another language expert yielded a score of 80%, categorized as “Agree.”
