Abstract
This study aims to identify and analyze phonetic interference from the Javanese language into Arabic among Javanese students in the Language Preparation Department at the Muslim Cendekia Institute. The research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical method with a field research approach. Data were collected through semi-structured oral interviews and direct observation involving 16 Javanese students. The findings reveal that students experience significant difficulties in pronouncing several Arabic phonemes, particularly those absent in the Javanese phonological system, such as /ح/, /ع/, /ض/, /ظ/, and /غ/. These difficulties manifest in various forms, including sound substitution, deletion, and modification of articulation points. The study also identifies several contributing factors, namely phonemic differences between the two languages, weak auditory discrimination, entrenched pronunciation habits, and the influence of rapid speech. The results confirm that phonetic interference is a natural phenomenon in second language acquisition but requires appropriate pedagogical intervention. Therefore, the study recommends intensive phonetic training, increased exposure to authentic Arabic audio input, and contrastive phonetic exercises to improve students’ pronunciation accuracy
