Abstract
This study aims to investigate the role of digital presentation slides in enhancing the teaching of Arabic grammar (nahwu) for non-native speakers, with a focus on the visual and cognitive aspects that facilitate the understanding of abstract grammatical concepts and improve learner engagement in digital classroom environments. While previous studies have examined multimedia in general language learning, there remains a significant gap in research specifically addressing the systematic design of presentation slides for Arabic grammatical structures. To address this gap, the study employed the Design and Development Research (DDR) methodology (Richey & Klein, 2014), progressing through four systematic phases: needs analysis, media design, development, and pedagogical evaluation. A model of educational presentation slides was developed using PowerPoint and Canva, integrating principles of visual learning, visual chunking, and multimedia learning theory. The model comprises five main components: an engaging cover slide, chunked content slides, color-coded grammatical elements, clear Arabic typography, and interactive classroom activities. The model was validated by three domain experts in Arabic language education and educational technology, achieving an overall validity rating of 85% (Very Good category). The findings revealed five key outcomes: (1) systematically designed slides significantly improve grammatical comprehension; (2) visual chunking and color coding reduce learners' cognitive load; (3) interactive activities increase classroom participation; (4) organized visual design enhances sustained visual attention; and (5) the slides serve as effective self-learning tools accessible beyond the classroom. The study concludes that integrating aesthetic design with pedagogical organization within presentation slides creates a more interactive and effective learning environment for Arabic grammar. It recommends training Arabic language teachers in digital instructional design and developing grammar materials based on modern visual media suited to the characteristics of the digital generation.
