Phonetic Errors among Seventh-Grade Students at Ma’had At-Tarbiyah and Their Remedial Strategies الأخطاء الصوتية لدى طلاب الفصل السابع في معهد التربية وطرق علاجها

Abstract

This study aims to investigate phonetic errors among seventh-grade students at Ma’had At-Tarbiyah, identify their types and causes, and propose appropriate remedial methods. The importance of this study lies in the fact that phonetic errors affect correct Arabic pronunciation, clarity of meaning, and linguistic communication. The researcher employed a qualitative approach, collecting data through observation of students’ language performance, followed by analyzing and classifying the errors according to recognized phonetic patterns, the findings revealed that phonetic errors fall into four main categories: omission, substitution, distortion, and addition, with substitution being the most common type among students. The results also showed that these errors are caused by several factors, including the influence of the mother tongue and local dialects, weak auditory discrimination, insufficient training in articulation points, as well as the inability to distinguish between short and long vowels. These errors not only affect pronunciation but may also alter or distort meaning, negatively impacting linguistic communication, the study proposed several remedial solutions, including intensive phonetic exercises, developing listening skills, practical training on articulation points, and gradual transition from guided pronunciation to correct spontaneous pronunciation. The study emphasizes the importance of teaching Arabic sounds systematically and practically to non-native speakers.
