Abstract
Arabic is linguistically rich in idiomatic expressions (al-ta'bīr al-ishtilāhī) whose meanings extend beyond their literal sense to widely used conventional ones in contemporary Arabic. The Holy Quran is among the most significant sources of such expressions. This study examines Quranic idiomatic expressions found in Mu'jam al-Ta'bīr al-Ishtilāhī fī al-'Arabiyyah al-Mu'āshirah by Muhammad Muhammad Dawud, focusing on entries [أ–ح], with two objectives: (1) analyzing these expressions lexically, exegetically, and idiomatically; and (2) exploring their utilization in developing speaking skills (mahārat al-kalām) among Arabic learners. This study employs a qualitative approach within a library research framework utilizing descriptive analysis. Data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The study found 17 Quranic idiomatic expressions, classified into four structural types: genitive (idhāfī), nominal (ismī), verbal (fi'lī), and clausal ('ibārī). The meanings were analyzed at three levels: lexical, exegetical, and idiomatic. The study demonstrates that these expressions can be effectively utilized in developing speaking skills through dialogues, question-and-answer exercises, situational simulations, and guided and free conversation practices.
