Abstract

This study investigates the reading comprehension problems encountered by non-native Arabic learners when dealing with Arabic media texts at Institut Muslim cendikia. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis involving students of the seventh level in the Arabic Language Education program. The findings reveal that students experience difficulties in understanding modern journalistic vocabulary, identifying implicit meanings, comprehending long sentence structures, and analyzing contextual expressions commonly used in Arabic media texts. In addition, limited vocabulary mastery, insufficient exposure to authentic texts, and differences between classical Arabic structures and contemporary media language contribute significantly to these challenges. The study also found that the use of authentic reading materials, contextual teaching strategies, and intensive reading exercises can improve students’ comprehension skills. This research contributes to Arabic language teaching by offering practical recommendations for developing effective qira’ah instruction using authentic media texts in non-native Arabic learning environment.
