Abstract

This study aims to investigate the contribution of Arabic calligraphy instruction to the development of writing skills among preparatory-level students at Institut Muslim Cendikia. The research was motivated by the observation that many students experienced difficulties in writing Arabic clearly and accurately, particularly in letter formation, word organization, and reducing writing errors. This study employed a quantitative approach using simple linear regression analysis to examine the relationship between Arabic calligraphy learning and writing skills. The sample consisted of 30 preparatory-level students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and interviews, and then analyzed using SPSS 25. The findings revealed that Arabic calligraphy instruction had a positive and statistically significant contribution to students’ writing skills, as indicated by a significance value of 0.001, which was lower than the significance level of 0.05. In addition, the coefficient of determination reached 32.6%, indicating that calligraphy instruction contributed to improving letter clarity, writing organization, and reducing writing errors. Therefore, Arabic calligraphy instruction can serve as an effective pedagogical tool in supporting the development of Arabic writing skills among language learners.
