Abstract
Arabic language education in Indonesia has expanded across various Islamic educational institutions; however, limitations in human resources and instructional references continue to affect the effectiveness of the learning process. These issues are reflected in students’ limited comprehension and the suboptimal implementation of instruction, influenced by factors related to both students and lecturers. Luqman Al-Hakim Islamic Collegeand is one of the institutions that applies Arabic in daily academic communication. Nevertheless, the researcher observed that students’ speaking proficiency remained weak despite studying through Arabic. This study aims to identify the problems in teaching speaking skills (maharah kalam) and propose appropriate solutions. The research employed a descriptive-analytical method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The findings revealed both linguistic and non-linguistic problems, including limited vocabulary mastery, frequent grammatical and morphological errors, difficulties in sentence construction, weak language environment, low self-confidence, limited motivation, and insufficient learning time. These problems negatively affected students’ speaking proficiency. Therefore, the study recommends strengthening vocabulary instruction, applying functional grammar, developing a supportive language environment, and enhancing students’ motivation and self-confidence.
