Abstract

The instruction of I'lāl bi al-Qalb rules in af'āl mu'tallah within the I'dād Lugawī program at Kuliyyah Madani lil-'Ulūm al-Tarbawiyyah Yogyakarta is hindered by the abstract nature of the material in the Al-'Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk textbook. This abstraction triggers "Cognitive Freezing," a tendency among female students to memorize ṣarf outcomes without comprehending the underlying rules. This study aims to describe the development of Instagram-based interactive digital posters as an instructional supplement for ṣarf, while evaluating their visual effectiveness in addressing Cognitive Freezing. Utilizing a Design and Development Research (DDR) approach under the category of Research on Products and Tools (Richey & Klein, 2014), this research developed five carousel posters via Canva by applying the principles of Visual Chunking, Signaling, and Aesthetic Engineering, aligned with the Microlearning framework (Nannaware & Phadtare, 2025). Validation was conducted by an expert in Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers (TAFL). Success was measured through the Pedagogical Usability framework (Nokelainen, 2006) across three indicators: Added Value, Motivation, and Applicability, eschewing conventional statistical measurement paradigms. The results indicate that segmentation based on Cognitive Load Theory (Sweller, 1988)—implemented through Dark Mode, hierarchical typography, and color coding—effectively deconstructs Cognitive Freezing by transforming abstract grammatical constructs into information units that can be processed incrementally and independently. This study recommends the expansion of visual Microlearning models as digital-era Arabic instructional supplements across a more comprehensive scope of ṣarf rules.
