Abstract
The Health Service Team is considered to play an important role in maintaining pilgrims’ health and monitoring their medical conditions during the Hajj pilgrimage. The high intensity of communication between the health service team and various parties in Saudi Arabia makes the study of Arabic language needs essential to support the effective implementation of their duties. This study aims to identify the linguistic needs in speaking skills among Indonesian Hajj health service teams and to determine the proposed method for teaching speaking skills to them. The researcher employed a descriptive-analytical method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews with one member of the health team. The data were then analyzed qualitatively to identify linguistic needs and the challenges faced by the team in communicating in Arabic. The findings of this study indicate two main points: first, Indonesian Hajj health service teams have a strong need for Arabic speaking skills, especially in professional situations such as communicating with local healthcare staff, referring patients, and explaining their medical conditions. Second, a proposed curriculum was designed based on the communicative approach, consisting of learning units related to real work environments such as airports, hotels, hospitals, and camps. This curriculum includes dialogues, vocabulary, and various exercises such as listening, repetition, and role-playing.
