Abstract
This research examines the impact of Quran memorization on the development of reading skills among students at the Tartil Institute in Sukabumi. The study stems from the importance of linking Quranic memorization with reading skill enhancement. It aims to describe the Quran memorization methodology at the institute and explore the extent of its influence on reading proficiency by analyzing the educational curriculum and gathering student feedback on their academic progress. The researcher employed a mixed-method approach, combining descriptive analysis of the memorization system with quantitative analysis of questionnaire data collected from a sample of 25 students, supported by interviews and direct observations. The results revealed that the Tartil Institute is an Islamic educational institution focused on Quran memorization, recitation, and Tajweed. Students follow a structured daily routine, starting with a morning session for new memorization, followed by review sessions for recent and past memorized portions, and concluding with an evening preparation session for the next day. Additionally, a weekly refinement session is held to correct mistakes and improve performance.The institute emphasizes mastery through periodic assessments for each memorized section while accommodating individual differences. Alongside memorization, students study two key Tajweed texts—Tuhfat al-Atfal and Al-Jazariyyah—with practical applications to ensure accurate recitation in accordance with Islamic rules, fostering deep understanding and proficiency in Quranic performance.The findings indicate that Quran memorization has a significant impact (88.4%) on reading skill development, improving pronunciation, expanding vocabulary, and enhancing reading comprehension. This highlights the effectiveness of Quran memorization as a powerful tool for cultivating advanced reading abilities.
