Abstract
This study is based on the observation of various obstacles that hinder the development of speaking skills among the female students of Ma’had Nurah, despite the efforts made in teaching it. This study aims to identify the obstacles in teaching speaking skills among female students of Ma’had Nūrah and to explore the efforts made by teachers to overcome these challenges. The research employed a qualitative case study design involving 53 students selected randomly. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students face several obstacles such as individual differences, interference from their mother tongue, limited vocabulary mastery, preconceived perceptions about the difficulty of Arabic, limited instructional time, and psychological barriers such as fear of making mistakes and shyness. To address these challenges, teachers implemented various strategies including organizing language sessions, conducting regular evaluations, creating a supportive language environment, encouraging Qur’anic reading and memorization, diversifying teaching methods, and increasing opportunities for oral participation. These efforts significantly contributed to improving students’ speaking competence and confidence. The study highlights the importance of pedagogical adaptation and continuous practice in enhancing Arabic speaking skills.
