Abstract
This research was motivated by the persistence of Arabic pronunciation errors among first-year students of the Arabic Language Education Program at Muslim Cendekia Institute Sukabumi, particularly in the articulation of Arabic sounds (makhraj al-huruf) and the differentiation of similar sounds, which affected the clarity and fluency of speaking. This study aimed to analyze the effect of speech activities on improving correct pronunciation, identify the implementation process of these activities, and measure their contribution in overcoming students’ pronunciation errors. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a closed-ended questionnaire based on a four-point Likert scale. The validity test was conducted using Pearson correlation, while the reliability test employed Cronbach’s Alpha. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and simple linear regression to test the research hypothesis. The results of the study revealed that the speech activities were carried out through several stages, namely topic selection, text preparation, speech delivery, and evaluation. These activities had a positive effect on improving pronunciation accuracy, the ability to distinguish similar sounds, speaking fluency, and students’ self-confidence. Furthermore, there was a positive relationship between the intensity of students’ participation in speech activities and the level of pronunciation improvement. Therefore, speech activities can be concluded as an effective method for improving the pronunciation skills of first-year students.
