Abstract

This study is motivated by differences in the level of students’ classroom interaction, which may influence their speaking skills. This study aims to determine the level of students’ classroom interaction, the level of their speaking skills, and to examine the effect of classroom interaction on the development of speaking skills among second-level students of the Ma’had Programme at the Muslim Cendekia Institute in Sukabumi. The researcher employed a quantitative method, with data collected through a questionnaire distributed to 46 students. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, including percentage calculations, validity testing, reliability testing, normality testing, and simple linear regression analysis. The results show that the level of classroom interaction is high, with an average score of 40.30 out of a maximum score of 50, or equivalent to 80.6 on a scale of 100, indicating a very good level of interaction. Meanwhile, the level of speaking skills is in the good category, with an average score of 38.91 out of 50, or equivalent to 77.82 on a scale of 100, indicating good speaking ability. Furthermore, classroom interaction has an effect on the development of speaking skills with a contribution of 23.7%. Therefore, it can be concluded that higher classroom interaction leads to better speaking skills.
