Abstract

Reading comprehension skill is one of the fundamental language skills in measuring students’ ability to understand Arabic texts. This study aims to examine the role of semantic development learning in the Semantics (‘Ilm al-Dalālah) course in improving reading comprehension skills among sixth-level female students at Ar-Raayah University. This study employed a quantitative approach using a questionnaire based on the Likert scale, which was distributed to 55 female students as the research sample. The data were analyzed through validity and reliability tests using Microsoft Excel, as well as simple linear regression analysis using SPSS 24.0. The validity test results showed that all instrument items were valid, as the calculated r-value was greater than the r-table value (0.266). Meanwhile, the reliability test results indicated that Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient reached 0.604 for the independent variable and 0.730 for the dependent variable, both of which were categorized as having good reliability. The results of the simple linear regression analysis revealed that the regression equation was Ŷ = 7.927 + 0.589X, with a correlation value (R = 0.513) and a coefficient of determination (R² = 0.264). This indicates that semantic development learning contributed 26.4% to the improvement of reading comprehension skills, while the remaining percentage was influenced by other factors.
