Abstract

Speaking skill is one of the most important skills in Arabic language learning. However, many students face difficulties in applying grammatical rules in oral communication because grammar teaching is often dominated by theoretical approaches. Therefore, an effective learning strategy is needed to help students understand and apply grammatical rules practically. This study aims to determine the effect of the direct instruction strategy in teaching Matan Al-Ajurumiyah on the development of students’ speaking skills at Dar Asy-Syifa Islamic Boarding School, Pasar Minggu, Jakarta. This research employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed using SPSS through validity and reliability tests, linear regression, T-test, and F-test. The findings showed that the direct instruction strategy was implemented systematically through gradual explanation, oral practice, and direct error correction. This strategy significantly improved students’ ability to use correct grammatical structures, speaking fluency, and self-confidence in speaking Arabic. Statistical analysis also revealed a significant positive effect of the direct instruction strategy on students’ speaking skills.
