Abstract
Considering the importance of translation skills in understanding Arabic texts and conveying their meanings into Indonesian, as well as the various difficulties faced by students in the translation process, the researchers were interested in studying the factors influencing the difficulties of translating Arabic texts among sixth-level female students at Muslim Cendekia Institute. This study aimed to describe the factors affecting translation difficulties and propose suitable solutions to address them. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving twelve female students and a translation course lecturer. The findings revealed that translation difficulties are not caused by a single factor, but rather by interconnected linguistic, non-linguistic, and cultural factors. Linguistic factors include limited vocabulary, weak reading skills in Indonesian, and structural differences between the two languages. Non-linguistic factors include weak writing skills, lack of translation practice, and the influence of the language environment. Cultural factors include differences in cultural meanings, difficulties in translating proverbs and idiomatic expressions, and insufficient prior knowledge of the text topic. The study also showed that developing translation skills requires continuous practical training, improving reading and writing skills in Indonesian, gradual learning in translation practice, and greater attention to cultural aspects related to Arabic and Indonesian texts.
