Abstract
Educational background plays an important role in the success of learning Arabic, especially in acquiring speaking skills, as students with prior educational background are generally more capable of following the learning process and adapting to the language environment. This research aimed to identify the influence of educational background on the learning of speaking skills among students of the Language Preparation Department at Muslim Cendekia Institute. This study was field research using a quantitative approach. The researcher employed several instruments for data collection, namely library research, questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The data were analyzed using the Ms. Excel Data Analysis Feature and SPSS 24.0. By using the total sampling technique (Sampling Jenuh), the sample consisted of 100 female students. The results showed that educational background influences the learning of speaking skills, as indicated by the regression equation: Y = 13.88 + 0.24. Based on the correlation coefficient (r), the obtained value was 0.408, which indicates a moderate relationship between the two variables. This shows that educational background contributes to the improvement of speaking skill learning, and vice versa. Therefore, there is a positive correlation between educational background and the learning of speaking skills. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (r² = 0.166) indicates that educational background affects speaking skill learning by 16.6%, while the remaining percentage is influenced by other factors not discussed in this study. These findings indicate the importance of considering students’ educational backgrounds in learning speaking skills effectively.
