Dawah Messages Derived from the Biography of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah الرسائل الدعوية لابن تيمية وتطبيقاتها المعاصرة: دراسة تحليلية

Abstract

This research is motivated by the crisis of scholarly and pedagogical depth in contemporary religious discourse, particularly within digital media where popularity often overshadows substantive knowledge.   Amidst these challenges, the life of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah offers a prototype of a preacher integrating intellectual strength with moral integrity.   This study aims to systematically identify dawah messages in Ibn Taymiyyah’s biography and analyze their implementation in addressing contemporary dawah problems.   The researcher employed a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach, utilizing content analysis to interpret classical texts and contemporary literature.   Findings identify five fundamental dawah messages: absolute sincerity and steadfastness (tsabat), integration of vast knowledge with wisdom, protection of the Islamic creed (aqidah), moral courage, and reliance on proof-based dialogue.   In the Indonesian context, these are implemented through figures such as Ustaz Khalid Basalamah in maintaining the dignity of knowledge on social media and Buya Hamka in preserving scholarly independence against political pressure.   This study concludes that integrating these messages is crucial for modern preachers to build an effective, authoritative dawah strategy capable of engaging the critical thinking of the younger generation.
