Abstract
Modern sports media is considered an important source for enriching vocabulary due to the contemporary terminology it contains, which contributes to developing the linguistic competence of Arabic language learners. This study aims to analyze football-related sports terminology found in articles published on Al Jazeera Net during the period from 1 to 6 October 2025 and to examine its role in enriching learners’ vocabulary. The study employs a descriptive-analytical method using documentation techniques to collect data from selected sports articles. Data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal a total of 37 sports terms classified into two main categories: in-field terminology and out-field terminology. These terms were analyzed linguistically and semantically by referring to authoritative Arabic dictionaries. The results show that 28 terms are related to on-field performance, such as possession, passing, and scoring, while 9 terms are associated with administrative and regulatory aspects of the game. The study concludes that the language of sports media serves as an effective source for vocabulary enrichment and contributes to enhancing learners’ contextual understanding.
