Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of tamatsul activities through Arabic poetry on the acquisition of linguistic expressions among third-level students at Ar-Rayah University, Sukabumi. This study is motivated by the low ability of students to use Arabic expressions accurately, variably, and contextually. Therefore, effective learning strategies are needed to develop this ability, one of which is tamatsul activities based on Arabic poetry, which integrate memorization, comprehension, and active language use. This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive field research method. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression to test the research hypothesis. The population consisted of all third-level students totaling 70 individuals, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a four-point Likert scale questionnaire, supported by observation and interviews. The regression analysis results indicated a positive and statistically significant effect of tamatsul activities through Arabic poetry on the acquisition of linguistic expressions. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that tamatsul activities through Arabic poetry have a significant effect in improving students’ ability to acquire and use linguistic expressions. Therefore, this activity is recommended to be developed as an effective learning strategy in teaching Arabic at the university level.
