Political Terms Derived From Al Jazeera to Enhance Arabic Vocabulary Acquisition المصطلحات السياسية المستفادة من موقع الجزيرة لزيادة حصيلة المفردات العربية

Abstract

It is important for learners of Arabic to pay attention to contemporary political terminology because it helps them understand news and political issues and contributes to the development of their vocabulary, especially in this era of widespread media and rapid political developments. This study aims to identify the political terms found on the Al Jazeera website (political news published in October 2025 as a model), as well as to explore the use of these terms in teaching Arabic vocabulary. The researchers employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytical method. Data were collected through library research and observation by examining political news texts, and the data were analyzed through data collection, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the political terms found on Al Jazeera amounted to 54 political terms. Examples include “national security,” “political reform,” “political pluralism,” “regional intervention,” “international legitimacy,” and “ceasefire.” The use of these terms in vocabulary teaching follows Nation’s theory of vocabulary instruction through the presentation of news texts, linguistic exercises, structures, and contextual learning. These findings indicate that this approach contributes to enhancing vocabulary acquisition and developing learners’ lexical competence.
