Abstract
This study aims to analyze the forms of reading comprehension exercises in the second volume of the al-‘Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik series and to examine their distribution and pedagogical functions in developing reading comprehension skills among learners of Arabic as a foreign language. The significance of this study stems from the crucial role of language exercises as a fundamental tool for reinforcing comprehension and enhancing reading competence. The study adopts a qualitative approach through library research, employing descriptive-analytical methods and content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that the reading comprehension exercises in the book are limited to five major forms: true-or-false exercises with error correction, short-answer questions, sentence ordering, comparison, and identifying the main idea. The results further indicate that the true-or-false pattern is the most frequently used, appearing forty-nine times, which reflects the series’ emphasis on consolidating literal comprehension before progressing to higher analytical levels. The study concludes that the book applies a systematic pedagogical progression that contributes to the balanced and gradual development of reading comprehension skills.
