Abstract
This study aims to analyze Buya Hamka's Islamic educational thought and examine its relevance in addressing contemporary Islamic education challenges in the modern era. From Hamka's perspective, education is viewed as a strategic means to form the insan kamil (a human being who develops holistically and in balance across intellectual, emotional, and spiritual dimensions). For him, education does not stop at academic achievement but also encompasses the cultivation of noble character and the instillation of Islamic values in life. This research employs a qualitative library research method. Primary data is drawn from various works of Buya Hamka, supported by relevant academic references. Data analysis uses the interactive model by Miles and Huberman, which includes the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and systematic, ongoing conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Islamic education according to Buya Hamka emphasizes the integration of knowledge (ilmu), faith (iman), and practice (amal) to achieve well-being in both this world and the hereafter. This holistic thought remains highly relevant to contemporary education as it offers an educational concept that is holistic, humanistic, and value-based, serving as an integrative foundation. The novelty of this research lies in its complete and systematic reconstruction of his thought, offering an integrative solution to current problems of knowledge dichotomy and moral crisis. Consequently, this concept can serve as a foundation for developing more holistic and contextual Islamic education.
