The nominal sentence in Surat Yusuf (from verses 1-50 as a model) and its use in teaching Arabic to intermediate learners

Abstract

This study aims to identify nominal sentences in Surat Yusuf (verses 1–50), analyze their types, and explore their usefulness in teaching Arabic to intermediate students. The goal is to improve grammatical understanding and reduce language errors. Surat Yusuf was selected due to its linguistic richness and relevance to Arabic grammar. The research uses a qualitative method through desk research, involving data collection, classification, analysis, and conclusion from books and related studies. The results show that most nominal sentences begin with pronouns, definite articles, demonstratives, or genitive constructions. Sentences starting with explicit nouns, infinitives, interrogatives, or relative pronouns are less frequent. A total of 80 nominal sentences were identified in the selected verses. These findings reflect the depth of Arabic sentence structure and provide authentic examples for language instruction. The study suggests integrating these verses into Arabic learning through various exercises such as comprehension questions, dialogue-based tasks, and grammar drills. This method supports more accurate language use in both writing and speaking. Applying Qur’anic examples makes grammar learning more meaningful and helps students connect classical texts with modern language usage in an effective and engaging way
