Abstract

Assessment is a crucial element in the learning process and should not be overlooked. It serves to measure the students’ ability to engage with the lesson, especially in Islamic educational institutions at the intermediate level. This study aims to describe the assessment of Arabic language teaching using the book Al-‘Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik for seventh-grade students at Ma’had Syaraf Al-Haramain in Bogor, as well as to describe the development of the four language skills in this book, along with the supporting and inhibiting factors in using it. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques including observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the assessment of Arabic language teaching using Al-‘Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik for seventh graders is conducted integratively using formative and summative assessment methods. The assessment covers listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through written tests, oral activities, tasks, observations, and interviews. The teaching was effective due to the organized structure of the book, teacher competence, and a supportive learning environment. However, challenges such as difficulty of material for beginners, limited variety of teaching methods, and lack of interactive learning media were noted. The success of the learning process greatly depends on student readiness and the integration of teaching methods with the content. Assessment results are used as a basis to improve the curriculum and teaching strategies to make learning more effective and suitable to the local context and national standards.
