Abstract
The implementation of a language environment in modern educational institutions in Indonesia is a contemporary approach to teaching Arabic. The Tartil Institute for Qur’an Memorization in Sukabumi is considered a prominent model in this field. This study aims to describe the language environment at the institute and examine students’ perceptions of its impact on the development of speaking skills. The researcher employed a mixed-methods approach, combining a descriptive method to analyze the language environment and a quantitative method to measure its effect. Data were collected through observation, interviews with the administration, and questionnaires distributed to 20 students from a total population of 186. The data were analyzed using descriptive analytical statistics based on the Likert scale. The results revealed: 1) The institute adopts Modern Standard Arabic in the educational process and strengthens the language environment through strategies such as establishing dormitories, setting specific times and places for Arabic speaking, organizing language activities, and using simplified religious materials. 2) Students’ attitudes toward the impact of the language environment on speaking skill development reached 79.5%, which falls under the “high” category (66%–79.99%), indicating a clear and positive effect of the language environment on enhancing Arabic-speaking proficiency among students at the institute.
