Abstract
One of the most prominent rhetorical devices that enrich speech and writing and add linguistic and aesthetic depth is quotation, which is one of the arts of Badi'a. In language, Badi'a refers to the creation and invention of something. Rhetoric has three arts: the science of meaning, the science of statement, and the science of the badi'a. Badi'a is one of the verbal artifacts of rhetoric, and it is not attached to the science of meaning or the science of statement. Quoting is a powerful tool that helps enhance expression in speech and writing, and a person may have difficulty in choosing the right verse to quote information from. This study aims to identify the quotation from the Holy Quran in the novel "Giants of the North" by Dr. Najeeb Al-Kilani. Because quotation is not a mere transfer of texts, but an art that is used to strengthen meanings, enrich the style, and persuade the recipient, making it one of the finest tools of statement and influence. In order to achieve the previous goal, the study followed the descriptive and analytical method, and the type of this research is qualitative research by the library method. The researcher found that the number of quotations from the Holy Quran in the novel "Giants of the North" amounts to twenty-three quotations. The researcher found sixteen sentences with their original meaning, and seven sentences that deviated from their original meaning to other meanings. Fifteen of these quotations were found to be macro-quotations and eight were micro-quotations. Whether these quotations are derived from the meanings of the verses directly or from the statements and opinions of the commentators. They can be utilized by understanding the content of the verses in the narration.
