Abstract
Vocabulary is the key to language. Experts in second language education agree that learning vocabulary is a fundamental requirement and a crucial condition for acquiring a second language. Vocabulary is one of the linguistic elements that enables the understanding of sentences and words, serving as a means of communication among people. It is also an essential tool for developing the four language skills, particularly speaking. Without understanding the meanings of words and how to use them, a person cannot speak, comprehend what they hear or read, or write effectively. Idiomatic vocabulary (terminology) is one of the topics that received significant attention in modern linguistics during the 20th century, due to its vital role in facilitating sciences, clarifying their concepts and foundations, as well as enhancing communication and understanding among researchers and scholars. This research aims to study the idiomatic expressions found in the book "Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim Ṭarīq al-Ta‘allum" by Imam Al-Zarnuji, with a particular focus on the chapter "The Nature of Knowledge, Jurisprudence, and Its Virtue." It seeks to interpret these expressions both linguistically and terminologically, relying on trusted dictionaries and academic sources, while also exploring their potential use in developing Arabic speaking skills for non-native learners. This is achieved through practical examples that enable learners to apply these expressions in various educational and real-life contexts. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, examining idiomatic expressions and analyzing their meanings based on Arabic dictionaries and specialized academic sources to clarify their linguistic and terminological definitions. These expressions were then categorized and applied in diverse contexts to demonstrate their usage. The study concludes with findings aimed at interpreting these expressions and integrating them into daily conversation, thereby enhancing learners' communicative skills. The study identified 59 idiomatic terms and expressions in the chapter "The Nature of Knowledge, Jurisprudence, and Its Virtue" from Al-Zarnuji’s book. These terms were subjected to linguistic and terminological analysis, accompanied by practical applications such as educational dialogues, reading texts, and language exercises—all designed to enhance the speaking proficiency of non-native Arabic learners.
