Abstract

This research aims to analyze the meaning of hijrah symbols presented in the film 172 Days using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory, focusing specifically on symbolic signs. The study applies a qualitative descriptive method with a semiotic approach. Data were collected through observation and documentation of selected scenes that represent the inner transformation of the character Zira during her hijrah journey. The results show that there are eleven main symbols that reflect Zira’s emotional, moral, and spiritual transformation, including symbols such as the drop of blood, her father’s advice, past photos, her mother’s embrace, Bella’s guidance and words, sincere repentance (taubat nasuha), and the acceptance of the Qur’an. Each symbol marks a turning point in Zira’s journey from despair to spiritual awareness. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how symbolic signs in visual narratives can convey the themes of taubat nasuha and personal transformation.
