Abstract

The choice of the topic "Indonesian Proverbs and Their Arabic Equivalents: A Comparative Study and Their Use in Developing Speaking Skills among Arabic Learners in Indonesia" stems from the need for educational tools that integrate language and culture, as well as the lack of studies utilizing proverbs in teaching speaking skills. This study aims to identify similarities and differences between proverbs in the two languages, analyze their comparative relations, and propose strategies for employing them to improve learners' oral expression. The research adopts a descriptive, analytical, and comparative approach by selecting a group of Indonesian proverbs commonly circulated on online platforms and comparing them with their equivalents in Arabic proverb collections. The study finds that many of these proverbs are identical in meaning though different in structure and that they possess rich educational potential to enhance students' fluency, vocabulary, and pragmatic awareness, especially when used in realistic speaking activities. The study concludes that incorporating proverbs into Arabic language teaching provides both linguistic and cultural benefits. It recommends the development of educational materials and comparative dictionaries based on proverbs to promote linguistic and cultural communication in second language learning environments.
