With the advancement of time and the development of new methods in the teaching and learning process, teachers are required to be capable of understanding and mastering various learning models in order to adapt teaching strategies according to the students' needs and characteristics. Among the modern educational methods that can be used to develop speaking skills, especially in middle school levels, is the cooperative learning method. This study aims to describe the teaching of Arabic at Wahdatul Ummah Islamic Junior High School in Kolaka using the cooperative learning method, and to determine the effectiveness of cooperative learning in developing speaking skills among seventh-grade students at the same school. The researcher used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design (pre-test and post-test for one group). The sample consisted of 16 female students. Data were collected using pre- and post-tests and analyzed using the t-test and Excel program. The results showed that the cooperative learning method was 91% effective based on the Pearson coefficient (0.918) and a p-value of 3.14E-07 < 0.05, indicating the rejection of the null hypothesis and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis which confirms the effectiveness of cooperative learning in developing speaking skills. This indicates that cooperative learning is effective in enhancing students' speaking skills.
