Abstract

Direct method is one of the most effective teaching methods for improving students’ understanding, as it provides an interactive learning environment where the teacher can offer clear explanations and immediate responses to students’ questions. This method is applied at the Baitul Qur’an Abnaul Ummah Boarding school  in Sukabumi. This study aims to describe the procedure of direct method in teaching Arabic at the boarding school and to identify its advantages. The research used a qualitative approach through observations and interviews with the boarding school's director and Arabic teacher, and data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model to ensure accuracy. The results show that direct method at the boarding school follows four structured stages: preparation, introduction, content explanation, and evaluation. It emphasizes direct method between teacher and students. This method offers several advantages: it focuses on comprehension without translation, increases student participation, improves listening and speaking skills, helps students acquire vocabulary and structures more quickly, encourages thinking in Arabic, creates a natural language environment, enhances memory retention, and builds students’ confidence in using Arabic fluently. Therefore, direct method proves to be an effective approach in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers at the boarding school.
